These pages contain the story of trip to the VW Weekend By The Lake event put on by the Silver Circle chapter of the VVWCA of Lakeport, CA.

Attending the trip were Jim Kikuchi in his '64 Ghia, Steve Hollingsworth with the '69 Bug, Jamie Chu & Matt with Jamie's '78 Vert Super), Dave and Heather in the 1600 DP dune buggy, Tad in his white Ghia and myself in the '67.

We actually went to Lakeport on Friday in two groups. Steve left San jose in the afternoon to join up with Jamie and Matt in SF and the rest of us left from the hangout at around 9:00 PM. Due to heavy traffic in the city, Steve and Jamie and Matt didn't reach Lakeport until around 11:00 PM. The second group pulled in at around 2:00 AM.

BTW, I think Heather and Dave can now attest to the comfort level of traveling at night from SJ to Lakeport in an open buggy. Hey Heather! Would that be on a scale of 1-10 or 0-10? Particularly that cold wet fog crossing the bridge! Brrr!

Anyway, we all stayed at the "U-Wanna Camp" campground, a nice little place a few miles from town. I just put the sleeping bag on the ground next to the car.

Saturday morning I awoke to the sight of deer wandering through the campground. They seemed unconcerned as I took some pictures. They've no doubt been fed by previous campers.

This wide shot of the camp shows all the cars. From left to right: Steve's '69, Dave & Heather's Dune Buggy, Jimmy's 64 Ghia, Jamie's '78 'Vert (in the back), Tad's Ghia and my '67 Ghia. You can see my bag on the ground next to the Ghia.

By the way: In case you are squinting at these tiny pictures, the full size version can be viewed by clicking on the small ones.

Kermit seems to have caught some breakfast!
