Here are some pictures from my trip to the 2002 Copper State show in Phoenix
I got on the road at 3:30 am Saturday morning. My route was I-25 South to Albuquerque then I-40 West to Flagstaff and finally I-17 South to Phoenix. The weather was clear and dry, but fairly cold until the sun came up. With everything in good tune I was able to travel at around 80 mph most of the way. The oil temp never exceeded 180º.
Somewhere around Santa Fe I noticed a drop in power and pulled over for some diagnostics. The problem was readily evident. I had lost a Nylock nut and the right-side Kadron had been disconnected.
With a little improvisation and some nuts & bolts donated from a nearby mini-mart attendant, the right carb was back on line and I was on my way. I arrived in Phoenix around 5:00 pm.
The Copper State show was quite a success. The Wolfsburg Registry club put on an excellent show as usual. There were somewhere around 160 cars ranging from the sublime to the bizarre.
The ride home featured a snow-storm at the AZ / NM border. It was not very cold but visibility became quite poor as the heavy, wet snow came down.
I stopped in Gallup for lunch and to let the snow subside then got back underway. The storm was traveling East and I soon caught up with it again and drove through and out the other side. This picture shows the storm behind me.
No more weather problems after that and the scenery was soon back to gorgeous.
