I'm sure there is a correct
way to adjust the thermostat, but here is how I do it.
First, place the right flap assembly in the 1/2 cylinder tin. It's a
lot easier to feed the rod through the head without trying to maneuver
the whole shroud.
Now attach the thermostat & bracket.
Remove the generator from the shroud but leave the left flap assembly
installed. Lower the shroud over the flap assembly.
Since the generator backing plate is not in the way, you can observe
the right flap through the hole and make adjustments till it moves form
fully closed to fully open when the thermostat is heated with a hair
dryer. Along with the thermostat bracket adjustment, the rod can be
lengthened or shortened by bending it and the flap assembly itself can
be moved up and down a bit. Do what ya gotta do.
Now connect the left-right tie bar between the flaps in front of the
shroud, hook up the spring and make sure everything still moves like it
should. Done.
